NHS Digital named as top digital employer in Leeds

14th October 2016: NHS Digital has come top of a Leeds-List ranking of 'digital and tech companies we would love to work for'.

NHS Digital manages national technology systems and services for the NHS, enabling the NHS to run seamlessly, 24 hours a day day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The ranking praised NHS Digital for its 'focus on collaboration, visibility and transparency in everything they do' and also said that the organisation has 'real passion, using cutting edge technology on a huge scale to make health services better, while saving the NHS some serious cash.'

NHS Digital has a track record for building and running resilient systems that meet users' needs and help modernise the way health and care is delivered.

The organisation is responsible for the broadband network that connects health and care - this requires 12,000 miles of fibre, enough to stretch from NHS Digital's Leeds office to San Francisco and back.

NHS Digital is also responsible for the Spine, the digital backbone on which the NHS operates. Last year they completed the insourcing of this huge project and saved the NHS £20.5 million in annual running costs. Spine handles up to 2,000 messages a second, more than four times the average load on the UK's entire debit and credit card transaction system. It has also delivered 99.99 per cent reliability and availability.

The organisation has just finished the largest mailbox migration in the world, transferring the accounts of more than a million people to the new NHSmail 2 platform. It will allow doctors to offer e-consultations to their patients and to quickly and securely consult fellow professionals via video calls.

Rob Shaw, Chief Operating Officer at NHS Digital explains: "There is something incredibly satisfying about working on systems which affect so many people's lives and which make our NHS work better. I am really proud of the team here at NHS Digital and we have some of the most highly skilled people around working on our products and services. But what's different about working here is just how much people believe in what they are doing and the commitment that the whole team has to delivering excellence. After all, our health and care organisations deserve the very best to help them to do their jobs more efficiently, more securely and in a way that frees up frontline staff for patient care."

NHS Digital is attending the Leeds Digital Job Fair on 20 October. Delegates can register to attend at https://leeds-list.com/discussion/event-shows-why-leeds-is-tempting-digital-professionals-out-of-the-capital/
