NHS Digital is inviting aspiring clinical informaticians to come and spend time learning and increasing their understanding of the field of clinical informatics. The invite is for a taster day. It is open to practicing clinicians, allied health professionals and social workers with an interest in digital transformation of health and social care services.
We are looking to provide brief exposure to practical clinical informatics and how our organisation operates as the digital partner to the National Health Service. Successful applicants will spend the taster day gaining an overview of the role of clinicians in the IT programmes and services that support digital transformation of national health services.

This is an opportunity for individuals and NHS health and social care organisations to send a clinical/social care representative to NHS Digital for a day, who will feedback after gaining knowledge on national NHS informatics and data initiatives, networks, opportunities, and technologies available for harnessing knowledge and information.
This could fit into both the individuals and the organisations’ continuing professional development programmes. To the attending individual it would also support any career aspirations or progression in clinical informatics
Format of the day
The taster day will comprise of a morning where attendees will gain exposure to the history of clinical informatics and NHS data repositories. The attendees will also have an opportunity to meet the senior leadership team at NHS Digital and gain an understanding of health informatics and how data processes are designed, procured, and delivered in the NHS. They will also have an opportunity to understand the role of patient safety within clinical informatics. There will be an opportunity to raise questions on possible career opportunities both within NHS Digital and the wider NHS.
The afternoon of the taster day will be a networking session with the clinical informatics clinical group. The taster day attendees will have the opportunity to join the wider learning of topical subjects within clinical informatics.
When and where
The first Taster Day will be Wednesday 29 September 2021. Further dates will be added in 2021 and 2022. The Taster Days will initially be delivered via Microsoft Teams. We hope to offer the Taster Days face to face, at our Head office in Leeds in the near future.
