Notes for editors

  1. Data on hospital admissions comes from the Hospital Episodes Statistics data collection. The figures in this report are for hospital admissions with a primary diagnosis of drug-related mental or behavioural disorders, and for hospital admissions with a primary diagnosis of poisoning by drug that are listed as controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (includes both intentional and unintentional poisoning).

  2. This data is based on the mapping of hospital admissions to Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) deciles. IMD deciles are based on 2015 deprivation scores for English lower super output areas produced by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.
