The impact of data on safety systems is now well recognised and several high-profile accidents have had significant data causes or contributions.

Data can directly cause systems to behave anomalously, for instance sensor data in the recent Boeing 737 MAX accidents, or it can cause humans to take inappropriate actions leading to harm, for example the loss of the Sikorsky S-92A helicopter in Black Rock, Co. Mayo, Ireland.

Focus on healthcare

NHS Digital's clinical safety team are involved in this event which will look at what has changed in data safety in the last few years and where it is heading.

It will consider the current status of guidance and standards in the area and also new developments. It will include talks from a variety of sectors where data safety is an important issue, in particular healthcare, where data held in systems is crucial to effective diagnosis and treatment.

SCSC data safety guidance document

There will be a focus on the SCSC Data Safety Guidance document and the software tooling being developed from it, enabling projects to easily work to the guidance.

Panel session

There will be a panel session where the audience has an opportunity to put further questions to the speakers.

Who the seminar will be useful for

This seminar is an opportunity to hear about the issues data can cause in safety systems and look at new developments in the area. It will be useful for safety engineers and safety managers, across any sector that uses data in a safety context.
