The World Health Organization is currently developing this 11th revision of ICD, which is due to be finalised and submitted to the World Health Assembly for endorsement in May 2018.

As a WHO Collaborating Centre, NHS Digital is supporting the testing of the classification in 2016 and 2017.

An initial phase of pre-testing took place during August and September 2016. This allowed us to:

  • create a baseline 'Gold Standard' for ICD-11
  • test selected components of the classification for:
    • consistency
    • accuracy
    • feasibility
    • comparability with ICD-10
  • examine the testing process and instruments
  • build up ICD-11 Knowledge and coding skills

The results of these tests and other collaborating centres around the world will be discussed at the WHO FIC Annual Network Meeting, in Tokyo, this October.
