Summary

This statistical bulletin relates to earnings estimates for staff at NHS organisations on the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) up to March 2020.


This publication is a full set of quarterly earnings tables with information for March 2020 The next publication will be in September 2020 and will contain data up to June 2020.

In NHS Trusts and CCGs in England:

The mean annual basic pay per full time equivalent (FTE) was £32,808 in the 12 month period up to the end of March 2020. This is £942 (3.0%) more than in March 2019.   The mean annual earnings per person were £33,626 in the 12 month period up to the end of March 2020. This is £958 (2.9%) more than in March 2019.   The mean annual basic pay per person was £28,916 in the 12 month period up to the end of March 2020. This is £857 (3.1%) more than in March 2019.   The mean annual non-basic pay per person was £4,711 in the 12 month period up to the end of March 2020. This is £102 (2.2%) more than in March 2019.

In NHS Support Organisations and Central Bodies in England:

The mean annual basic pay per full time equivalent (FTE) was £42,618 in the 12 month period up to the end of March 2020. This is £2,060 (5.1%) more than in March 2019.   The mean annual earnings per person were £41,057 in the 12 month period up to the end of March 2020. This is £2,048 (5.3%) more than in March 2019.   The mean annual basic pay per person was £38,298 in the 12 month period up to the end of March 2020. This is £1,831 (5.0%) more than in March 2019.   The mean annual non-basic pay per person was £2,759 in the 12 month period up to the end of March 2020. This is £218 (8.6%) more than in March 2019.
