GP and Dental Data Sets for Earnings and Expenses Estimates
Summary
Why and how we process your data in the GP and Dental Data Sets for Earnings and Expenses Estimates and your rights.
Controller | NHS England (in relation to processing the personal data) and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) (in relation to determining the purpose for processing the data through issuing the Workforce Information Directions 2019 to NHS England). |
How we use the information (processing activities) | The GP and Dental Earnings and Expenses Estimates are long-standing Official Statistics publications produced by the Primary Care Workforce team at NHS England. Figures are produced for each of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. The GP publication is commissioned by the Technical Steering Committee (TSC), which is a joint stakeholder group with membership from NHS England, UK health and governmental departments, the Secretariat for the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB), HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the British Medical Association (BMA). The dental publication is commissioned by the Dental Working Group (DWG), which is a joint stakeholder group with members from NHS England, UK health departments, HMRC, the General Dental Council (GDC) and the British Dental Association (BDA). The data provided by the relevant bodies in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland is used to produce a record-level data set, which is processed by HMRC under a Data Processing Agreement to produce summary, aggregate, non-disclosive estimates of GPs' and dentists’ earnings and expenses. The Official Statistics are used to inform policy and in remuneration negotiations regarding recruitment and retention purposes. The GP and Dental Earnings and Expenses Estimates are crucial information required by the DDRB. The statistics are the only source of data covering all UK NHS primary care GPs and dentists and estimates of their earnings and expenses. The reports identify changes to working patterns, inform policy and are used in the development of new contractual arrangements. GPs' and dentists' contracts advise them that their data will be used centrally for statistical purposes. |
