A

Adoption Registration Service

Our service is currently not available. Following a review, information on the website will be updated. The service checks for a record of a Civil Death Registration in England, Wales and the Isle of Man on behalf of adoptees and birth relatives to establish if an adoptee or birth relative is recorded as having died.

The Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework (ASCOF) measures how well care and support services achieve the outcomes that matter most to people. The measures are grouped into four domains which are typically reviewed in terms of movement over time. Data is provided at council, regional and national level.

Commissioning Data Set Bureau Service

A hosted facility that provides centralised processing of trusts' commissioning data sets through to the Secondary Uses Service (SUS).

Data Access Request Service (DARS)

The Data Access Request Service (DARS) can offer clinicians, researchers and commissioners the data required to help improve NHS services. We handle applications, process data and provide access to specific sets of data when requests are approved.


Data quality

The DQMI is a monthly publication about data quality in the NHS, which provides data submitters with timely and transparent information.


Data Registers Service

A service that provided a trusted source and location for 'data registers' - live lists of reference data for things like NHS organisations and workers.


Data Services for Commissioners (DSfC)

We're responsible for ensuring NHS Digital meets its statutory and service obligations to commissioners. We do this via the Data Services for Commissioners Regional Offices (DSCROs) and by developing and implementing policies and plans.


Diagnostic Imaging Data Set (DID) data product

The DID data product is curated from data submitted to a central collection of diagnostic imaging tests carried out on NHS patients and extracted from local radiology information systems (RIS).

Electronic Staff Record Data Quality Reports (WoVEn)

The Workforce Validation Engine (WoVEn) is a monthly data quality report on data in the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This is sent to individual organisations, allowing them to correct their data at source. It also provides national rankings for data quality scores against an agreed list of criteria.


Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS)

The Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS) is the national data set for urgent and emergency care. It replaced Accident & Emergency Commissioning Data Set (CDS type 010) and was implemented through: ECDS (CDS 6.2.2 Type 011)


Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS) data product

The ECDS data product is created from data submitted to NHS England as part of the Commissioning Data Set (CDS) (CDS type 011) which is managed by the Secondary Uses Service (SUS). Detail on the data submitted and how it is processed by SUS may be found within the Enhanced TOS (ETOS).

Linked HES-ONS mortality data

Find out about linked HES-ONS mortality data. Combined data in Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) and Office of National Statistics (ONS) datasets provides additional valuable information, such as the cause of deaths and deaths outside of hospital, which is not available if only using HES.

Medicines dispensed in Primary Care NHS Business Services Authority data product

Medicines dispensed in Primary Care is a curated data product created from patient-level data about medicines dispensed and claimed for in community settings (predominantly community pharmacy) from the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA).


Mental Health Data Hub

The mental health data hub is designed to help people find data relating to mental health. The data hub provides links to a variety of statistical publications and dashboards from a number of organisations.

Patient Level Information and Costing System (PLICS) Data Collections

NHS England's Costing Transformation Programme (CTP) was established to implement Patient Level Information and Costing Systems (PLICS) across acute, mental health, ambulance and community providers.


Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs)

Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) measure health gain in patients undergoing hip replacement, knee replacement and up to September 2017, varicose vein and groin hernia surgery in England, based on responses to questionnaires before and after surgery.


Personal Demographics Service

The Personal Demographics Service (PDS) is the national master database of all NHS patients in England, Wales and the Isle of Man - holding basic patient details such as name, address, date of birth, contact details, registered GP, nominated pharmacy and NHS number. PDS has a National Back Office for handling data quality.


Processing cycle and Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS) data quality

This data quality report provides monthly, interactive reports on coverage, data quality and the transition of moving to the new national Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS). .

Treatment Function Codes

Treatment Function Codes (TFCs) and Main Specialty Codes are used to support the national reporting and analysis of clinical workforce activity throughout the NHS and through data sets such as the Commissioning Data Sets (CDS).
