Assured Point of Care systems for the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination
We are assuring more Point of Care (PoC) systems for Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and other care settings to choose to use as part of their coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination response.
When a person is vaccinated, PoC systems send vital data to national systems including product and batch details and recording any adverse reaction. The data also feeds back to GP systems to link to medical records and the National Immunisation Management System (NIMS)
This work is in response to requests from primary care organisations asking for access to a greater choice of systems. It has been supported by NHS Digital, NHS England and NHS Improvement, NHSX, the Royal College of GPs, the Joint GP IT committee and the General Practitioners Committee in England, the BMA.
These systems will join Pinnacle, the system initially used by all vaccination sites to create a mixed economy of point of care applications. This allows greater choice across settings and reducing reliance on any one supplier.
Point of Care systems
All settings should consider which system meets their needs.

Assurance of systems
Outcomes4Health (Pinnacle) was the system initially used by all vaccination sites and was commissioned centrally. The other systems, above, are being made available via the GP IT Futures framework, apart from Sonar which is going through assurance via NHS England and NHS Improvement commercial agreement (to be finalised).
They have been through NHS Digital’s rigorous assurance process to ensure vaccination information is captured and flowed securely back into GP systems, onto patient records and into national management systems.
