Network connectivity and improved bandwidth

Get accelerated access to HSCN network connectivity and bandwidth upgrades.

Rapid delivery of data network connectivity

The NHS is deploying new resource at an unprecedented rate, including setting up new hospitals, and other new resources.

We are making sure that these sites have accelerated access to Health and Social Care Network (HSCN) services, which provide highly performant, security enhanced internet connectivity as well as the private connectivity required to access critical NHS applications.

We can prioritise these connections with the nation’s infrastructure and network suppliers to rapidly deploy high bandwidth connectivity to sites being used to house COVID-19 hospitals and other health services in support of the COVID-19 response.

In many cases we can also help provision HSCN connectivity over existing infrastructure and connectivity.

For help with new sites and connections, email enquiries@nhs.net.

Extra bandwidth for existing sites

We are working with Openreach, suppliers of the Health and Social Care Network (HSCN), and other infrastructure partners to prioritise the connections for NHS organisations.

We are accelerating the connections for the NHS, so that the front line gets the services they need.

This means that staff can access systems quickly and reliably, even with the additional network traffic flowing through the system.

Winter pressures guidance

NHS winter pressures: advice for health sites with ADSL connections
Due to increased demand being placed on IT networks, all healthcare sites using an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) connection should review their connectivity and move to a faster, more reliable connection type.

NHS Winter Pressures: Advice for health sites with FTTC Connections
Due to increased demand placed on the network capacity of healthcare providers, we recommend that all sites using over 75% of available capacity on their FTTC connection review their network connectivity and move to a faster, more reliable connection.

NHS Winter Pressures: Advice for health sites seeking capacity increase of existing connection
Due to increased demand placed on the network capacity of healthcare providers, we recommend that all sites increase their connectivity service to make further use of their existing physical network bearers.
