Summary

The information in this bulletin about the childhood immunisation programme in England is derived from the COVER (Cover of Vaccination Evaluated Rapidly) data collection undertaken by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Centre for Infections (CfI), and from the Department of Health return KC50.

Highlights

For the cohort of children reaching their second birthday in 2004-05

Uptake of MMR vaccine was 81 per cent, slightly higher than the reported uptake of 80 per cent for the 2003-04 cohort and the first year-on-year increase since 1995-96

Uptake of vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae b and meningitis C remained at around 93 per cent, very similar levels to those reported for the 2003-04 cohort
