Sir Ian Andrews, Senior Independent Director
A former Second Permanent Secretary (2nd PUS) of the Ministry of Defence who retired from the civil service in 2009, Sir Ian Andrews was Non-Executive Chairman of the UK Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) - now part of the National Crime Agency - from 2009-2013.
For much of the last twenty years has been closely involved in the management of transformational change in large and complex organisations in the national security space. Appointments have included as a Managing Director of a major Ministry of Defence Trading Fund (the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency) and Chief Executive of the then Defence Estates Agency.
As the 2nd PUS, he was a member of the Defence Board where his responsibilities included information assurance and security. He continues to pursue a range of wider national security interests, including raising public and private sector awareness of cyber security threats, providing support to Defence Diplomacy and contributing to various public sector and academic leadership initiatives.
Sir Ian Andrews has been a Non-Executive Director of NHS Digital since 2013.
