Patient Level Information and Costing Systems (PLICS) Early Implementers Collection for Further Services for FY 2021/22 data

Data Provision Notice for the Patient Level Information and Costing Systems (PLICS) data collection required to be submitted by specified early implementation providers of further services.

Overview

The information gathered from this collection will be used to enable NHS England's Costing Transformation Programme to more effectively perform its pricing and licensing functions under the Health and Social Care Act 2012. It will:

  • inform new methods of pricing NHS services
  • inform new approaches and other changes to the design of the currencies used to price NHS services
  • contribute to the NHS England's strategic objective of a single national cost collection
  • inform the relationship between provider characteristics and cost
  • help trusts to maximise use of their resources and improve efficiencies, as required by the provider licence
  • identify the relationship between patient characteristics and cost
  • support an approach to benchmarking for regulatory purposes
  • allow NHS England to report the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the cost base in the English NHS.

Scope

This Notice is served on:

  • those trusts, as providers of acute, mental health and community services, which have agreed to participate as set out in Annex A Section 2 of this Notice.

Legal basis


Period

This is a one-off collection. Data collection is scheduled to take place from 9am on 16 November to 5pm on 9 December 2022 inclusive. Data can only be submitted within this time-period.

Updates

7 December 2022: Version 1.2 of this Notice has been issued to add The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to the list of participating providers.

15 November 2022: Version 1.1 of this Notice has been issued to note a change of submission dates (from 24 October to 11 November 2022, now as above).

8 November 2022: Note added to page to inform of a delay in opening of the submission window. New dates still to be confirmed.
