Joining this organisation was a natural progression for me; it always felt like somewhere I aspired to work. I've deliberately put myself in roles in which I can contribute to healthcare and support frontline workers – whether providing digital services for clinicians or working with trusts to improve shared services.
I'm currently working on the NHSmail service on the Microsoft 365 platform to drive value in apps such as Microsoft Teams. We are also working on an app to help a virtual ward to coordinate a patient’s journey through their treatment, communicating vital information via Teams. It's in its infancy but is creating a lot of excitement within the trust we are working with.
I'm also a board member of the Fragile X Society and use my professional knowledge to help them adopt more digital ways of working. My eldest child has Fragile X, a genetic condition that causes mild to profound intellectual disability. We got the diagnosis at just 3 weeks old, which meant we had access to a wide range of NHS support much earlier than most children with the condition. He’s in mainstream embedded specialist school, can self-care and can interact with the family. Much of this is down to the early diagnosis and intervention.
