By November 2023, all providers of NHS-funded secondary care services must develop the capability to issue a Statement of Fitness to Work (the Med 3 form, also known as a ‘fit note’) electronically using the eMED3 form, as set out in this new information standard.
The eMED3 form will replace the current paper-based process and can either be sent digitally or printed and handed to the patient. All associated data will be accessible via the patient record.
