It is the intention of this policy to assure the proactive and consistent management of records and documents, and the information they contain throughout their life-cycle; from receipt or creation; through active use; on-going maintenance, storage and occasional reference to a final timely and controlled disposal decision and action. This objective must be achieved in compliance with legislative obligations and through adherence to a framework of best practice standards.

The policy outcome must therefore be the effective management of records and documents; that they provide trustworthy evidence of all decision making at whatever level; underpin the delivery of efficient services; protect the interests of NHS Digital and its staff and to make information accessible where ever appropriate and possible. The Records Management Strategy will explain anticipated policy outcomes with more clarity.
