To improve understanding of appointments capacity and utilisation in general practice and inform more effective planning and management of capacity at local and regional levels.
Legal basis
Sections 254(1), (3) and (6) of the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
The Directions came into force on 1 September 2018.

This is a weekly, automatic collection of anonymised data from general practice appointment systems. It is used to measure capacity and utilisation in general practice, allowing healthcare managers and commissioners to plan and manage services more effectively.
