GP Appointments Data Collection, Version 2.0

Data Provision Notice to support the extraction from GP IT systems of transactional appointment and utilisation data from all general practices and Extended Access Providers in England.

Overview

Following the GP appointments data project work NHS Digital undertook in 2017- 2018 and 2018- 2019 a further phase of work is required to introduce greater standardisation of appointment data.

This is to support national analysis of any developed general practice access/waiting time standard and/or capacity and utilisation metrics. This is required to support the NHS Long Term Plan, the general practice forward view and their commitment to improving access.

From April 2020 general practice will be required to categorise appointments, using a national standard that support the intention to publish GP activity and waiting times data monthly from 2021, alongside hospital data. Publication of the data will expose variation in access between networks and practice.

Scope

This Notice is served on:

  • all general practices in England and extended access providers.
