Female Genital Mutilation Datasets

The Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Enhanced Dataset supports the Department of Health's FGM Prevention Programme by presenting a national picture of the prevalence of FGM in England.

Female Genital Mutilation Enhanced Dataset

NHS England collects data on FGM within the NHS in England on behalf of the Department of Health (DH).

The data collected is used to produce information that helps to:

  • improve how the NHS supports women and girls who have had or who are at risk of FGM
  • plan the local NHS services needed both now and in the future
  • help other organisations for example local authorities to develop plans to stop FGM happening in local communities

Data is collected from NHS acute trusts, mental health trusts and GP practices and reports are published as an official statistic every quarter.

The Female Genital Mutilation Enhanced Dataset Standard (SCCI2026) includes more information about wider data standards and how to record information about FGM, and the full specification and guidance documentation.
